With the passage of President Obama’s Economic Stimulus Bill, homeowners may be eligible for a tax credit if they purchase certain types of heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, water heating equipment, or make other energy-related improvements to their homes between January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2010.
This is the perfect time for Trane dealers to sit down with their customers at the kitchen table and explain the total benefits of purchasing a Trane high efficiency system this season.
The largest percentage of air conditioners in homes today are less than the federal minimum of 13 SEER. The majority is between 8 and 10 SEER and are probably on the last 20-30% of their useful life. Homeowners can use the stimulus tax credit to help them upgrade the efficiency of their heating and cooling system. As we know, more than 50 percent of the average power bill (electricity) in the summer goes to cooling your home. By making the improvement from an 8 SEER to a 13 SEER unit, homeowners could save between 30-40% on equipment energy costs during peak times – especially if their system is at least 10 years old. And, that savings could be as high at 60% on Trane’s XL20i system.
Since the requirements of the new tax credit are very challenging and complex, Trane dealers and homeowners need to arm themselves with the facts around the tax credit eligibility.
